Evyïnit: When a scarf becomes high fashion

At Paris Fashion Week’s showrooms, we encountered a passionate duo of women in the knitwear industry. We discussed their sustainable brand, Evyïnit.

Who is Evyïnit?

Ewelina Smarz in the Palais Brongniart at Paris Fashion Week. March 2023

After completing her studies in Teacher Training and Professional Development at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Ewelina Smarz embarked on a mission to find the perfect loop-scarf. When she couldn’t find one that met her standards, she decided to take matters into her own hands and knit one with her mother.

To her surprise, the unique, eye-catching scarf caught the attention of many passersby, and soon enough, people started inquiring about where they could buy one. This demand inspired Ewelina to create her own label, Evyïnit, alongside her mother in 2012, with the aim of offering others the chance to own their dream scarf too.

Determined to take her fashion career to the next level, Ewelina moved to Berlin in 2013, where she enrolled in a Fashion & Design Management program at AMD (Akademie Mode & Design). Armed with the necessary skills and knowledge, she worked hard to elevate her brand and expand its reach to more European retailers. Today, Evyïnit is thriving, thanks to Ewelina’s unwavering passion, creativity, and dedication.

Fall-Winter Collection at Paris Fashion Week

The latest collection from this mother-daughter duo isn’t your typical new collection. Their slow fashion approach means that they focus on creating timeless pieces that will remain on their shelves for years to come, with only a few special additions every year.

The brand started with just one product — the perfect loop-scarf for Ewelina — eleven years ago. Since then, they have continued to constantly add to their collection new basics that embody the essence of their brand: high-quality, handmade, and cozy garments that are perfect for those cold days.

This year, the new addition to their collection is this tri-color turtle neck, featuring a combination of soft pastel colors that evoke a sense of warmth and comfort, much like the feeling of being at home. Despite being a newbie in their collection, this piece is sure to stand the test of time, just like their other classic designs. The photo above features Ewelina with the new piece.

Sustainability. Towards the future.

The family-owned business prides itself on using the finest Merino Wool available for their products, some of which feature a 2% mixture of Nylon. Merino wool is one of the lightest and warmest types of wool, with a rich history that dates back to the Middle Ages in Spain. By the 18th century, it had made its way to Australia, where it is now home to most of the selectively-bred sheep.

Aside from being exceptionally warm and comfortable, Merino wool is also an environmentally responsible choice as it is 100% biodegradable and recyclable. This makes it an excellent option for a winter ethical wardrobe.

To ensure the highest quality and low emissions, all pieces are hand-knitted in an artisanal way in Germany. With a focus on both quality and sustainability, Evyïnit is dedicated to creating pieces both timeless and eco-friendly.
