Belamer: From Sea to Style

Berta and Maria grew up by the sea, in Barcelona, nurtured by a deep respect for nature and a passion for fashion. Belamer was born out of shared passion for bikinis and a love for the ocean. Founded in 2020 by two sisters, Berta and Maria, the brand aims to create elevated and conscious designs for women who apreciate both: nature & style. The two sisters wanted to create a brand that aligned with their values, combining with minimalism with a responsible approach to consumption. In this article we will explore how Belamer empowers women to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies while respecting the environment.

Empowering women through designed swimwear

At Belamer, the team takes great care in designing swimsuits that enhance the feminine body shape. “Our focus on fit, elegant silhouettes, and minimalistic designs ensures that our swimwear not only looks great, but feels amazing” says the founders.

Belamer’s mission is to empower women to feel sensual, confident, and comfortable in their own skin. This is why the Tina bottom features an adjustable design, allowing for a personalized fit that adapts to individual preferences. Whether you want to reveal more or less, the adjustable straps ensure that you can wear it in a way that feels just right for you, offering both style and versatility to suit your comfort level and mood.

“Every body is unique and beautiful in its own way. Sometimes It’s about finding pieces that make you feel good and comfortable. ” — Berta and Maria.

Behind the scenes

The meaning of “Belamer”

The name “Belamer” is a fusion of French and English, symbolizing the sea and nature. The sisters chose it to reflect their brand’s deep connection to the ocean and the natural world while making it memorable and aligned with their core values. Though they’ve hinted at its meaning, they leave a bit of mystery, inviting you to piece together the clues and discover its full significance.

Why do your swimwear pieces have individual names, and how do you select them?

When it’s personal, the story has more heart. The two sisters choose names that resonate with them, which is what makes this brand unique. The naming of their pieces began as a tribute to the important women in their lives. The Elen model is a reference to their grandmother Elena, Isabel is named after their mother (Isabelle), Carmen after their aunt, and so on. This ensures that each piece feels special and tied to the feminine spirit that inspires Belamer.

BELAMER’S FUTURE

Belamer takes great pride in staying true to its core values of sustainability, sensuality, and simplicity. Today, the brand’s sustainable practices reduce its carbon footprint by 80%, using less water and energy.

You might wonder how the brand achieves this. Belamer uses regenerated nylon for all its swimwear, made from plastic waste recovered from oceans and land, like discarded fishing nets. To further reduce environmental impact, fabrics are sourced from Spain and Italy, and all garments are handcrafted in Spain, supporting local seamstresses under fair working conditions.

“Sustainability has always been a priority for us,” the team says. Their goal is to continue offering conscious designs that empower women while minimizing environmental impact.

Belamer also partners with Fundació Roure, a non-profit in Barcelona, to provide job opportunities to those at risk of social exclusion. This initiative has helped many women regain financial stability and a sense of community. For Berta and Maria, this is a key part of their social and environmental commitment.

“We’re incredibly proud of the small but dedicated team of women behind Belamer and all we’ve achieved since launching in 2020. It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re excited for the future.”
